Nutts Corner

I am looking forward to competing at Nutts Corner in Northern Ireland, this weekend. This is the second and third round of the Open Championship, as this is a 2 day event held on the 25th & 26th April.

The First Ever Junior Rallycross Camp

During the Easter Holidays the Chris Birkbeck Junior Rallycross Open Championship competitors went to the Chris Birkbeck Rallyschool in Brotton for the first ever Rallycross Camp. It was a 3 day event with a 2 night stay. The competitors were divided into two teams, with our team consisting of myself, Keifer Hudson and Simon Quinn, the other team members included Conor Flynn, Brad Bailey, Sam Kinirons and Frankie Helliwell. The teams drove a range of vehicles including the Ford KA rally car, FIAT Panda Reverse Steer car, Chuckle Buggies, Quads, Blind Fold Driving in a Land Rover Discovery, and Karts.

The teams took part in seminars hosted by Tom Watson (Scrutineer), Bob Wright (Clerk of the Course), Bob Brown (part of the rescue team), and Ron Watson (Chairman of the MDA). Chris Birkbeck gave us advice on our driving skills, followed by a tour around the rally workshop.  We had a table top rally, where we learnt some map skills if we wanted to navigate in the future, it also helped us to understand the perspective that co-drivers go through on rallies.

Through the duration of the camp there has been two teams competing against each other and collecting points. Our team (Kelly, Keifer and Simon) had been in the lead with the points all of the way through the camp,  and finished the event by winning the Kart Sprint aswell.

Paul Bird, Junior Rallycross Open Championship Representative and Peter Stott organised this event for the Junior competitors. We would also like to thank Chris Birkbeck for letting us stay at his hotel and keeping us out of trouble.

Kelly Bird says, “I enjoyed this week as we all came together and got to know each other, I feel like my driving has improved and it has given my confidence in the seat.”

Keifer Hudson states “this has been a fantastic few days and well worth being part of.”

Simon says “I think the camp was good and it has given me brilliant confidence for Nutts Corner next week.”

Croft - Round 1

I was racing at Croft on sunday 22nd March in the Chris Birkbeck Junior Open Rallycross Championship, I finished 4th overall in the A final. Unfortunatly I had a puncture in practice and suffered a lot of contact from other competitors throughout the heats. Overall I had a reasonable days racing and I am looking forward to competing at Nutts Corner on the 25th & 26th of April.

Autosport Show

I was at the Autosport Show at the NEC in Birmingham last weekend with my car, it was on the Open Rallycross Stand and I was representing the Chris Birkbeck Junior Rallycross Championship. It was good fun and a lot of people were interested in Rallycross. I was interviewed on the stage about my plans for this year and last years results.

Last Round of Open Championship

The last round of the Open Championship was at Croft on the 25th October, it was the first time racing in my new car. I was alot more confident in it and came 7th in the A final in the last round of the Open Championship. Which has placed me 6th in the whole championship, and I am the highest placed female driver.

On sunday the 26th October it was the Superprix, I finish 1st in the B final, so quailified 7th for the A final. I just missed out on a podum coming 4th.

Croft This Weekend

I am racing at my local curcuit, Croft this weekend. Should be a good weekend of racing. I am racing in the Open Championship on saturday and in the Superprix on sunday. I am looking forward to racing my new car for the first time.

I have got a new mini after the incedent I had a Blyton in September. I have been testing in it recently. It is all stickered up and ready to go at the weekend for the last round in the Open Championship and the Superprix at Croft on the 24th and 25th October.

Blyton

Blyton was a two day event on the 13th and 14th of September, I drove best I have ever driven.  I had a great days racing on the saturday, with a 2nd place, three 3rd places and two 4th places in the heats, but unfortunately a car spun infront of me in the A final, which caused a crash and I ended up in the barrier.

Overnight my dad and the K Motorsport team managed to straighten my car and get it running for sundays races. Many thanks to all who helped.

After another good days racing on the sunday, I am now 6th in the Open Championship out of 14 drivers.

Lydden

On the bank holiday in August I was racing at Lydden Hill, in Kent. I had never raced there before, I had some good races and finished 4th overall in the final.
